Can your employees be safely seen?

Blog

For any employer, the safety of their workforce must always be a high priority. If you are involved in construction, highway maintenance or any industries in which the lighting is poor or workers operate with moving equipment or vehicles, then making sure that your employees are easy to spot is going to a concern.

How can you be seen?

One of the most effective ways of ensuring that your employees can always be seen is to equip them with bright clothing so that they stand out against the background. Enforcing a strict hi-vis workwear policy is the best way of making certain that your employees have the best chance of being seen in even the bleakest conditions.

What type of hi-vis workwear is needed?

Not all hi-vis workwear is the same, and you must think carefully about where it is being worn to ensure that you select the most appropriate type of hi-vis workwear for your team. If you need to be visible during the day, then some type of fluorescent clothing is the best option. While fluorescent colours won't glow in the dark, they appear to do that to the human eye because of the way that they emit and absorb certain types of light. If your team will be working at night or somewhere that it is dark, then a fluorescent colour won't work as well. For night-time working, you will need to use hi-vis workwear that is retro-reflective and will 'bounce back' light from a source such as car headlights.

What does hi-vis workwear look like?

If you set a hi-vis workwear policy, then you must be certain that you have chosen the right type of hi-vis workwear for your employees. You could select a sleeveless hi-vis vest. This is a common approach; it allows your employees to be seen, but it is also easy for them to take on and off as needed. The disadvantage of a sleeveless hi-vis vest is that it may not offer the protection needed from inclement weather or dust and dirt, which may be necessary depending on the environment where it is being worn. It is always best to consult widely with your team before you introduce a workwear policy. Ask the people who are doing the job what level of protection would be best for them.

Classy petite corporate wear

When I was growing up, I kept expecting that any year I would have the growth spurt the other girls all had. It never happened and I'm still the same height I was in 8th grade. I am quite short for an adult lady, and as I move up the corporate ladder it's important for me to find outfits that make me look like a professional woman and not some kid dressing up in her mum's work clothes. This blog is all my inspiration of petite corporate wear that looks great as well as some ideas of great shops to try for petite clothes.
